All You Need Is Love, Unplugged

The Applause Concert Series continues with the latest installment, All You Need is Love, celebrating songs of the 1960s. The first of several shows offers a unique mix of poetry and music, featuring the premiere of composer Carson Cooman’s musical adaptation of Charleston poet Eugene Platt’s “Slaughter of the Innocents.” Eugene will be present to read his poem, which is based on the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. His reading will be followed by Cooman’s adaptation and eleven of the most poetic songs of the 1960s from artists Bob Dylan, Sam Cooke, Joni Mitchell, Simon & Garfunkel, The Rolling Stones, Pete Seeger, and The Beatles, performed by John Cusatis and two dozen SOA students. The concert, as always, is free.
